Luciferian Light Orchestra – Luciferian Light Orchestra

Have you ever been to a Satanic church? No? Well Luciferian Light Orchestra (LLO) will make you feel like you are in one. LLO is the side-project of Christofer Johnsson of Therion fame and has just released its debut album. The name is an obvious reference to the 70s rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) and features similar music. This is the epitome of the recent trend in heavy/doom metal called Occult Rock, which combines 60s/70s psychedelic rock with doom metal with an occult sensibility. Bands like Ghost, Blood Ceremony, and Jex Thoth are prime examples of this. LLO does all of this with the addition of orchestration (obviously), and it fits in charmingly. The new record starts out with the cool “Dr. Faust on Capri.” Right away, Mina Karadzic’s singing kicks in, and she proves to be a very beautiful, seductive vocalist, perfect for Satan-worshiping music. The track itself is not too evil, but warms up the listener for what is to come. Christofer Johnsson (or possibly another unknown singer) interjects with his own singing later on in the track, sounding very operatic. “Church of Carmel” follows, and is noticeably softer, yet still sinister.
