Year of the Goat – The Unspeakable

Just as in the resurrection of the fallen one, Sweden’s Year of the Goat has risen impressively through the ranks of the occult rock scene since their inception in 2006. Succeeding their first two EPs, 2012’s Angel’s Necropolis was a delicious sermon wetting the appetites of many a seasoned follower of the darker side of this retro rebirth we are witnessing in the music scene; songs like “Voice of a Dragon” and “Thin Lines of Broken Hopes” offered a promise of acceptance within his presence, as well as some of the finest music this revival has to offer. After proclaiming that “we’re coming!” with 2014’s The Key and the Gate the band’s next full length, entitled The Unspeakable, is yet another stellar candlelit ritual shimmering in the darkest recesses of consciousness. The band’s second full length, The Unspeakable is most assuredly a progression from their first. One is actually reminded of In Solitude’s final album, Sister, not necessarily in sound but in stylistic shift; somewhat lighter than the first album, yet heavier in other areas, Year of the Goat’s 2015 release is a more atmospheric affair than its predecessor.
